DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY
Dr. Nabakumar
Senior Pathologist, Department of Pathology
Pathology is defined by the Oxford dictionary as “the science of the causes and effects of diseases, especially the branch of medicine that deals with the laboratory examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes”.
The pathology department in a hospital provides diagnostic information and services to help patients and clinicians treat and monitor disease.
Clinical pathology is further divided into several subspecialties, such as clinical chemistry (biochemistry), which analyzes chemical components in the blood (e.g., electrolytes, enzymes, hormones); hematology, which studies blood and blood disorders; and microbiology, which investigates infectious agents like bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
